A Trip to the Galway Food Festival 2013

Over the Easter weekend the 2nd Galway Food Festival took place. This year I was lucky enough to attend due to winning a competition over on the Wise Words blog which was being run in association with the The House Hotel. To say I was excited was an understatement, as a weekend away at Easter wouldn't have been on the cards otherwise!! I love Galway as a get away city as it is always such a vibrant place to spend a few days.

The Festival had a jam packed programme of events, demonstrations, talks and markets. The boyfriend and I almost didn't know where to start!! We went to talks on social media, numerous demonstrations and ate our way through the various markets. Something really special was the revival of the Woodquay Country Market, which stopped trading in the 1980s, and which was full of local traders, local produce and music.

I had a whole list of restaurants that I wanted to visit but there was just so much great food at the markets that it was impossible not to sample as much as we could!! The list will have to wait till we visit again. We also discovered the wonderful Wild About, whose products are made from naturally wild, home grown or locally sourced core ingredients. Our fridge is now full of nettle pesto, wild garlic pesto and fennel cider butter that we are really looking forward to using.

The Galway Food Festival is a great initiative which showcases the best of what Galway has to offer. It has a strong focus on the local producer and on artisan and seasonal produce. It definitely achieves what it sets out to do which is to promote Galway as a good food destination. So if this festival sounds like something you might be interested in, put it in your diary for 2014!
